Description

Henry Bright 1810 – 1873 was born in Saxmundham Suffolk. Brights first job was as an apprentice chemist in Norwich. As his interest in art developed he took lessons from both JB Crome and JS Cotman. He also took lessons from Alfred Standard who famously snubbed him in Norwich. Bright famously confronted Standard in letter held at Norwich Castle Museum. Bright was a close associate of Thomas Lound and John Middleton; both respected Norwich School artists.
Henry Bright then moved to London where he exhibited at the Royal Academy and The British Institution. He also sold in 1844 The Entrance to a Prussian Town to Queen Victoria from the Royal Academy exhibition of that summer.
A drawing in pencil, charcoal and chalk on grey paper though to relate to the drawing 'Ancient Gate Tonbridge' held at the Castle Museum Norwich.
