Description
Here are a fantastic pair of late 19th Century / early 20th Century hand blown French boudoir bottles with original cork and metal stoppers with poring holes, attributed to the prestigious Legras & Cie glass company - one of the great French glassmakers of the 19th century, based in St Denis Paris. Depicting a cuffed ladies hand in frosted glass, (the nails and blouse button picked out in transparent glass) she holds aloft a bottle for keeping liquid soaps, foams, perfumes or indeed anything that a stylish person might want to keep in their boudoir. They really sum up the decadent feel of Paris during the Belle Epoque / Art Nouveau period. The bottles are clear colourless glass, but I have also included photographs with them filled with bath oils, so that you may get a clear impression of what they look like when containing coloured liquid. The bottles are hand blown and bear pontil marks, and also have the wonderful irregularities and bubbles of hand blown glass. Around the tops are glass collars ( please note in the photographs, that the lines on these are not cracks, just the moulding lines where the collars were applied at the time of manufacture ). They are in good condition, but have the surface wear that is to be expected from a well loved item of this age - they both display absolutely beautifully as I hope the photographs show. On the cuff of both is the word ‘DEPOSE’ (translating to ‘registered’), and the smaller bottles bears the pressed letter ‘L’ to the base. The tall bottle measures 30cm tall, 32cm with stopper in, and its smaller sister is 24cm tall, 26cm with the stopper in. The Larger of the pair holds approximately 500ml of liquid, the smaller approximately 350ml. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if I can provide any further information or photographs. I offer free delivery to mainland UK, and am very happy to help with quotes for shipping abroad.
