Description
An authentic, original Victorian wood-engraved portrait print of the prominent British barrister, Queen's Counsel, and Liberal politician, John Robert Davison, Q.C., M.P. (1826–1871), depicted in full judicial wig and robes. This commemorative print was engraved from an original portrait photograph taken by the celebrated London society portraitist John Watkins and published in the renowned illustrated weekly newspaper The Graphic on May 6, 1871, following Davison's sudden passing shortly after his appointment as Judge-Advocate-General. It beautifully showcases the crisp, highly detailed end-grain woodblock line work characteristic of premium mid-Victorian news illustration. The monochrome print has been hinge-mounted into a high-quality, contemporary cream card mat board and is completely ready to be placed directly into a standard frame. An excellent, sharp decorative piece ideally suited for legal professionals, historians, or collectors of 19th-century political memorabilia. • Subject: John Robert Davison (MP for Durham & Judge-Advocate-General) • Date of Publication: 6 May 1871 • Material: Monochrome wood engraving on period paper • Condition: Excellent condition. The black ink impression remains exceptionally clean, bold, and well-defined. The paper is bright and clear with no visible foxing, staining, or creases within the window display aperture.
